- Buy a local sim card. We purchased ORANGE sim card at the airport so that we could book an Uber. It was the only option available inside the airport. The other network providers are Vodafone, Etisalat. Make sure you give the exact amount in Egyptian Pounds and not other currencies as they might take a few extra bucks.
- You cannot access the free WiFi at the airport with international numbers. You will need an Egyptian number.
- Whatsapp audio And video calls are banned in Egypt over the mobile network. So we used Turbo VPN. However, you can make Whatsapp calls over WiFi.
- Download Uber before travel and familiarize yourself with the app.
- Know the timings of historic locations and museums and plan the trip accordingly. The timings will vary during the holy month of Ramadan.
- Know the day’s exchange rates. There are many currency exchange points throughout Egypt and all of them offer good rates.
- Learn basic Arabic words and numbers. It will help you during your travels. Read our experience.
- Egypt is very hot and humid. Carry an umbrella to beat the heat.
- Don’t drink tap water. Buy bottled water.
- Be ready to bargain like a tourist.
- Make sure whether the vendors say Egyptian Pounds or just pounds. There is a lot of difference.
