Is there an Uber in Morocco? This should be one of your most googled questions in search of a Taxi app in Morocco.
The answer is No. There is no Uber in any of the Moroccan cities. Some claim that Uber operates in Casablanca but I never tried using it. There were better alternatives.
Finding a common taxi app for all major Moroccan cities is impossible.
I try to sum up two main taxi apps that I used during my 11-day trip to Morocco.

The two game-changing Taxi app in Morocco
The exchange price during my trip (September 2023) was One Euro (€) ~ 11 Moroccan Dirham (MAD)
If you are looking for a Reliable taxi app in Morocco, you find them below.
1. Careem Taxi app
Careem, the Dubai-based app is the like-to-like replacement of Uber. The interface is also similar and you will find various taxi options to choose from.
2. inDrive Taxi app
I got to know about this app accidentally when I met a local during our Moroccan train travel.
He was an MBA student from Marrakesh and suggested that this app was very popular among the younger generation.
The app has two unique features
a. City to City ride
There is an option where one can choose to ride from one city to another, for instance, Marrakesh to Casablanca.
I didn’t try this option but that was a cool feature, unlike the Careem app.
b. You choose the driver
As soon as you enter your destination, you have the option to choose how much you would like to pay for the ride.
Then hit the ‘Find a driver‘ button. A list of drivers pop in with their quotations.
Select the driver of your choice. During peak times, many drivers may reject your fare. Therefore, try changing it to a higher fare.
During normal hours, I started with a lower fare, and luckily drivers accepted for the same amount.
The inDrive app worked perfectly in Marrakesh, Casablanca, Rabat, and Tangier.
The app is easy to use with a Moroccan local number. So, download the app only after reaching Morocco.
No taxi apps in these cities
There are no taxi apps in Chefchaoen, Essaouira, Fes. Here are some regular taxi prices that may help you.
1. Essaouira Medina to Essaouira CTM bus station Taxi ~10 MAD (2 km)
This little coastal town in Morocco never needs a taxi app. Taxi drivers were friendly, with no negotiations.
I asked how much and he replied, ‘Ten Dirhams’
2. Chefchaoen Medina to Chefchaoen CTM bus station Taxi~ 20 MAD (2 km)
The ideal price for this 2km ride is 20 MAD. Always take the registered Blue taxis waiting outside the bus station.
Beware of a few drivers approaching you inside the bus station. They are private and you end up paying double the amount.
He quoted 40 MAD first and we ended up paying 30 MAD after negotiation.
3. Fes Medina to Fes airport Taxi ~ 150 MAD (16 km)
The is no Fes taxi app. A local Taxi costs 130 to 150 MAD from Fes Medina to the airport.
With the language barrier, choosing an affordable taxi in Morocco is a challenge.
The local driver speaks either Arabic or French. So, there is one Mediator in local taxi stands who speaks English and operates as a middleman.
Tip to use Morocco ride-hailing apps
- Always give the exact change. Some drivers lie saying that they don’t have change.
- Taxi scams are common in Marrakesh. Once a driver took 100 MAD and charged twice for the ride (60 MAD instead of 30 MAD).
We were two people and the taxi driver said, ‘Each has to pay 30 MAD’.
After a long argument, he charged 40 MAD and returned 60 MAD. - Can I pay the Taxi in Morocco using a card?
No, the inDrive app accepts only cash whereas the Careem taxi app accepts both cash and card. - Are taxi apps safe to use in Morocco?
Both Careem and inDrive are safe in Morocco. I never faced any issues using them. Language might be an issue as the local drivers hardly speak English. - Do Moroccan taxi drivers cancel the ride?
In general, the taxi drivers don’t cancel the ride. But sometimes, if you can’t understand, they cancel.
Once at the Tangier train station, the driver canceled my Careem ride and insisted on paying directly the same amount in cash. We took it.
