In the digital world, the internet has made traveling to different countries hassle-free. Many countries like Cambodia, Turkey now offers an e-Visa to promote tourism.
The latest to this list is Malaysia. Yes, it was never this easy for Indian nationals to obtain a Malaysian tourist visa.
In 2017, the Malaysian Government introduced the Electronic Travel Registration & Information (eNTRI) facility for Indian nationals. To make things simple, I will consider the eNTRI as eVisa. Under this category, Indian passport holders are allowed to visit Malaysia as a tourist up to 15 days.
Note: This eVisa (eNTRI) is only applicable to those who fly to Malaysia.

eVisa cost:
22 USD ~ Rs. 1600, including the visa processing fee.
Tip: Travel agents generally quote around Rs. 3000 for this eVisa. Don’t waste your money. The price is almost double.
I applied for this visa by myself. Follow these simple steps and you can also successfully get a visa.
Requirements when applying eVisa (eNTRI)
- Scanned copy of Passport’s first page.
- Recent passport size photo as per specifications (Soft copy to upload)
- Flight tickets (pdf)
- Accommodation (pdf). Combine all if they are multiple.
Steps to obtain Malaysian eVisa (eNTRI) online
1. Go to the Malaysian official website
www.windowmalaysia.imi.gov.my/evisa/evisa.jsp
Then click ‘I’m new, Apply’
This is the only official link to apply for eVisa. Any other links will redirect you to the third party who asks for a commission.
2. Enter particulars
Enter all your details and register yourself in the portal. Double-check your details before clicking ‘Register’
3. Log in with your particulars
This is quite a normal procedure. A verification mail is sent and you click it. The server redirects you to the login portal.
Now click ‘Returning User’ and log in using registered email and password. Now there are two options
- Enroll eNTRI program – allows you to read all the rules and regulations. I highly recommend doing this. Then go to option 2.
- Apply eVisa
4. Upload soft copies
The server asks you to upload a scanned copy of the passport first page followed by flight tickets and accommodation pdf. Then proceed
5. Upload your passport size photo
This is the most painful step. There are certain specifications/conditions to upload it. Any small error, the server rejects and you have to repeat the entire process all over again by logging in. It took me a while to understand things and get it right.
Photo requirements: Recent 50 mm * 35 mm with white background
Tip: The website also allows you to do minor changes after uploading your picture. This option is very handy
6. Payment page
Only if the server accepts your photo, travel documents, you successfully come to this page. Check all your data once and proceed to pay using any one of your cards.
7. Download your eVisa(eNTRI)
After 15-20 min, you get a notification mail. Again goto official page, log in using ‘Returning User’.
Your eNTRI is ready to download
Save it as pdf, print it and add to your travel documents
Note: The notification mail may take up to 48 hours depending on traffic. So be patient.
